• Can Nephrotic Syndrome patients eat beans? Beans or bean product such as yellow bean, red bean, green bean, beancurd, contains a rich nutrition such as kinds of proteins and vitamins. The modern nutriology proves that keeping intake of beans for 2 weeks can reduce the amount of fat in the body, increase the immunity, and decrease the rate of being ill. When people are diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, they will lost a large amount of protein in the urine, leading to low protein in the blood. So patients with Nephrotic Syndrome are suggested to have more food rich in protein. As we know, beans or bean product contains rich proteins. Can patients with Nephrotic Syndrome have more beans or bean product to meet the need of the protein in the body?

  As a matter of fact, which kind of protein patients with Nephrotic Syndrome should take in depends on what kind of protein it is. Generally, the principle is that patients with Nephrotic Syndrome should take in good quality proteins instead of bad proteins. What is good quality protein? It means that after metabolism, it can cause less nitrogen. Nitrogen, as we know, is a kind of metabolism product which can bring kidney more burden. Three substances are toxins which should be discharged out of the body. They are creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, urea acid, the following two of which belong to nitrogen. All of them are discharged out of the body eventually through renal glomerualar filtration membrane. When kidney is damaged, or renal glomerualar filtration membrane is damaged, more nitrogen will accumulate in the blood. So in this case, patients with Nephrotic Syndrome should take in food which can cause less nitrogen. However, beans or bean product can cause more nitrogen in the metabolism. In contrast, lean meat, eggs can cause less nitrogen in the process of metabolism.
