Anaphylactic Purpura is a kind of vasculitis disease caused by allergy. About one third of Purpura patients suffer from Purpura Nephritis. It can be identified by hematuria or proteinuria. Some patients may also have severe symptoms of Rapidly Progressive Glomerulonephritis. Generally, the following are several methods to treat Purpura Nephritis:
I Allergen: allergen should be excluded firstly because it is crucial to prevent relapse of Purpura. Common allergens include animal products (fur, dander, wool etc.), drugs (eggs, seafood, milk, nut etc.), insect stings, infections (bacterium, germs and parasite etc.).
II Immunosuppressive agent treatment: steroid hormones are available for treatment of joint pain and gastrointestinal symptoms which are caused by Anaphylactic Purpura. Steroid hormones also have curative effect on skin lesions. However, the effect of steroid hormones on Purpura Nephritis patients is poor. But hormones and cytotoxic agents (Cyclophosphamide) as well as other immunosuppressive agents are often used together to treat patients with a large amount of urinary protein.
III Intensive treatment: intensive immunosuppressive agent treatment must be used for patients with Glomerular Fibrinoid Necrosis and/or crescent formation, and intensive treatment here refers to large dose of Methylprednisolone and/or large dose of Cyclophosphamide.
IV Symptomatic treatment: this method aims at treating symptoms only, which includes:
① Blood pressure controlling: limit patients’ blood pressure within 130/80 mmHg;
② Urination promoting & edema removing: AngiotensinⅠConverting Enzyme Inhibitor and/or Angiotensin Receptor Blocker are adopted to decrease urine protein;
③ Dialysis (Hemodialysis or Peritoneal Dialysis) should be used for patients who have developed into Acute Renal Failure.
V Traditional Chinese Medicine: the concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine is to diagnose and treat based on an overall analysis of the illness and the patient's condition. This is an effective treatment for Anaphylactic Purpura and it can be regarded as an adjuvant therapy for Purpura Nephritis.
Generally speaking, it is difficult to treat Purpura Nephritis. So patients shall adhere to a long-term treating plan and pay attention to it at every detail.
