Henoch-Schonlein Purpura is a kind of vasculitis syndrome, with leukocytoclastic vasculitis as the basic lesion, which is accompanied by IgA complexes depositing along the affected vessel wall. It mainly presents as skin purpura, arthritis, mucosal bleeding, abdominal pain and Glomerulonephritis. If kidney involvement occurs, then it is called Purpura Nephritis.
It is reported that many factors relate to this disease, but the direct cause of this disease is not clear yet. It is believed that this disease is induced by environmental factors on the basic of genetic susceptibility.
1. Genetic susceptibility
It is found by some researchers that certain genes have relations with the onset of Purpura Nephritis.
2. Bacteria and virus infections
About 1/3 of the patients with Purpura Nephritis have a history of premonitory infection. In inducing Purpura Nephritis, beta hemolytic streptococcus is the most common bacteria, but the positive relationship is not proved. Other bacterias which can induce Purpura Nephritis are staphylococcus aureus, salmonella typhi, pneumococcus and others. The most common virus infections include rubella, chickenpox, mumps, flu, measles and others.
3. Parasitic infections
Parasitic infection is a commonly seen incentive of Purpura Nephritis. The related incentives can be found in 1/4 of the patients with Purpura Nephritis. It may relates to the allergy which is caused by the catabolite in the growth process of the parasite larvae. Roundworm infection is the most common infection which can lead to Purpura Nephritis, and it accounts for about 3/4 of the parasitic infections. Other parasitic infections include infections caused by hookworm, filarial, schistosomiasis and others.
4. Foods and drugs
Foods which can induce Purpura Nephritis mainly include fishes, shrimps, eggs, crabs, milk and others. Allergy drugs mainly include commonly used antibiotics(such as penicillin, erythromycin, streptomycin, etc.), anti-inflammatory drugs(such as salicylic acid and analgin), sedatives, hormones, anti-TB drugs, vaccination and other drugs.
5. Other incentives include cold, trauma, insect bite, pollen, endocrine disorders, and even mental factors.
